NIGHT LIGHTS
Flamingo Hilton
Las Vegas, Nevada
Don't put your camera away when the sun starts to go down. Take it outside and capture some beautiful night shots. Las Vegas is a great place for pictures at night.

This was shot using 200 speed film and a 50mm lens wide open (lower F stop). Using a 1/60 of a sec shutter speed will still stop the flickering lights. Sometimes I will shoot using 100 speed film and balancing the camera on a steady surface, like a wall or a railing. I found that metering through the lens and bracketing 1 or 2 F stops either way works just great. Some of the lights are so bright you will find yourself shooting at 1/125 or 1/250 of a sec. For bracketing instructions see below.
Instructions on Bracketing

Use this method for any shots that you are not sure of and must have.

1. Meter through your lens and set shutter speed and F stop accordingly.

2. Take your photo.

3. Go to the next lower F stop, and take another photo.

4. Reset back to the original F stop, then adjust to the next higher F stop, and take the photo.

Using this method you will have 3 of the same shots, so you will not miss getting the right exposure. The bracketing can also be done by adjusting shutter speeds instead of F stops.

If your camera's meter is working properly, bracketing may not be much help when using print film, since print film can be altered at the time of processing. It is necessary for that 'must have shot' when using slide film. With slide film you get what you photograph, there are no room for errors.
